Roger Edwards - Stone carving

Roger Edwards, artist at Hove Plinth
From an early age Roger exhibited a great interest in art. His pragmatic father, however, steered him in the direction of medicine arguing that one can always produce art in ones spare time but one cannot do it the other way round.

Throughout his medical career he dabbled in painting, metal sculpture and ceramics. Now retired from the stresses of anaesthesia, the intensive care unit and running Worthing Hospital Art Project, Roger has devoted himself to stone sculpture. His
subject matter is influenced by the lower forms of life which he kept in jam jars and studied when he was a boy. He tries to instil quirkiness and humour into his tactile creations.
